What is Ladies Day?

What is Ladies Day?

For the uninitiated, Ladies Day can seem intimidating, with flocks of beautifully-dressed women taking over the viewing stands. So, to remove the mystery we take a look at just what is Ladies Day?

Where does Ladies Day come from?
Well, way back when in 1823, a poet wrote about Thursday at Royal Ascot as “Ladies’ Day… when the women, like angels, look sweetly divine.” The identity of the poet remains a mystery, but his words took on a life of their own; almost 200 years later, Ladies Day is synonymous with the most eagerly anticipated event on every racecourse’s calendar.

So, are men not allowed?
Men are more than welcome at Ladies Day! The idea that Ladies Day is a women-only event is a total myth, so dust off those tails, tweeds and suits and dress to impress!

What’s so good about Ladies Day then?
This day brings the cat walk to the race course. Ladies stun in colourfully coordinated outfits, and men dazzle in dapper suits. Not to mention the hats, the glorious hats! Wide brims, fascinators, and maybe even a top hat or two, it just wouldn’t be Ladies Day without them. So, what makes it even more worth taking the time to look so fabulous? The prize packages, of course! Here at Ffos Las, the best dressed lady will be awarded a prize of £1,000! The best dressed gent will receive £500 worth of vouchers from Slaters Menswear, and there will also be a fantastic prize for best hat: a £400 voucher for a bespoke headpiece, a Pandora bracelet, a faux-fur cape with matching trilby, and a bouquet of flowers and bottle of prosecco.

So, do I have to really dress up to the nines to come?
The dress code is smart casual. You don’t have to go all out if you don’t want to but please don’t wear sports shirts, offensive t-shirts, ripped jeans or casual shorts. But with a range of brilliant prizes to be won, why not really dress up for the occasion? We can’t wait to see all your outfits!

Heatforce Ladies Day at Ffos Las takes place on Friday 23rd August. Tickets are still available starting at just £22 for the BIGGEST fixture of the summer. Click here to get yours.
